City elections solidify candidates

Cities and establishments around the Laguna Madre are preparing for local elections.

The City of Laguna Vista is set to hold a special election for City Council place 3 on April 15 at City Hall.
Running for the seat is Natalie Ruiz and Alexia Perez, according to Chief Greg Cruz, current acting city
manager and police chief. Cruz also confirmed in a previous PRESS interview that Laguna Vista has been
working to find a new city manager.

Current town council members include Micheal Carter as Mayor, Dr. Christopher Romero as council
member and Mayor Pro Tem, Johvonne Hernandez as Council Member Place Two, Kenneth Cornelius as
Council Member Place Four, Teressa Bryant as Council Member Place Five, and Mike Hernandez as
Council Member Place Six.

Port Isabel will hold their elections on May 5, at the City Commission Chambers Meeting room.
According to the publicly available general ballot applications, Armando Rivera Jr., Michelle Ann Barreiro,
and James Anthony Galloway are running for City Commissioner Place Two. Sandra Holland is running
again for Commissioner Place One. Martin Cantu Jr. is running for Mayor re-election.

Currently in office for Port Isabel is Cantu Jr. as Mayor, Holland as Commissioner Place One, Carmen
Rios as Commissioner Place Two, Martin Cantu as Commissioner Place Three, and Jeffery Martinez as
Commissioner Place Four. Cantu and Martinez’s terms end in 2027.
