Garza launches campaign

Mauro Garza announced this week that he will run as a Republican candidate for Cameron County Judge against Eddie Treviño.

Garza released a launch video with his campaign announcement, outlining the reasons why he decided to run, including what he deemed as the mismanagement of county tax revenue and prioritizing Treviño’s “frivolous pet projects”, such as the construction of a new arena, over addressing infrastructure and repairs following catastrophic storms and flooding. The arena failed to pass voter approval for the third time in March.

According to a press release, Garza boasts extensive business experience and a deep commitment to public service. A seasoned researcher in the health field, Garza has led programs to protect kids from violence and
abuse. He’s worked closely with health professionals to fight addiction and disease. Garza has also built several businesses and understands the value of a dollar.

“I’ve done a lot in my life, but serving my community is always the most rewarding job. When there’s a problem to solve, something broken that needs fixing, or just a fresh perspective, I am ready to tackle it head-on.

That’s what Cameron County needs. Results don’t come about through political maneuvering. They come after hard work. I’m willing to sit down with the residents of this county, listen to their concerns, then roll up my sleeves and do what needs to be done,” said Garza.

The video is available in full on streaming platforms.

“Years of misplaced priorities…Mismanagement of taxes…And political grandstanding by Eddie Treviño has not only stalled our progress here in Cameron County…it’s sent us backwards,” Garza says in the video.

“When Trevino spends more time pushing an arena that taxpayers don’t want instead of pursuing a comprehensive plan to deliver what taxpayers need…you know it’s time to go in a new direction,” he goes on to add.

At 17, Garza lost his father, so he stepped up to take care of his mother and siblings, making sure they received a college education. Garza has built profitable businesses, organized fundraisers to help vulnerable children, and served Texans with his research and training to fight drug addiction, as explained in the clip.

For over 45 years, Garza has been the one people turn to when they need a leader to step up, it adds.

“I’m running for Cameron County Judge to deliver results. Our infrastructure can’t handle hurricanes and flooding. Farmers and ranchers are running out of water. We should be embracing our economic potential and creating employment opportunities. And we must secure the border from drug cartels who push their poison onto our children. It’s not rocket science, it’s public service,” he says.

“The people are my top priority…not building arenas for some politician’s vanity,” he concludes.
