The Cameron County Parks Department is set to light up Isla Blanca Park this Independence Day weekend with two nights of live music at the Cameron County Amphitheater and
Event Center, located at the southern tip of South Padre Island.

On Friday, July 4, the department presents the Cowboy Cumbia Tour, a free, family-friendly event featuring a vibrant lineup of more than 10 artists blending country, cumbia, hip-hop and pop. Performers include DJ
Kane, original lead vocalist of the Kumbia Kings; Chris Detroit, known for his electronic-infused Nu-Country sound; The Buck’n Crazy Band; Reny Roland and the Kicker Daddy Legacy Band; Miles Williams and
Hammer Down; and rising pop artist Krystall Poppin. Gates open at 2 p.m., inviting residents and visitors to celebrate with music and community spirit.

The festivities continue Saturday, July 5, with a ticketed concert headlined by Grammy-winning Tex-Mex rock band Los Lonely Boys, joined by special guest Whiskey D. Gates open at 7 p.m., and the event will
proceed rain or shine, promising a memorable evening under the stars.

The concert series highlights Isla Blanca Park’s growing role as a premier destination for cultural and recreational events. Operated by the Cameron County Parks Department, the 6,791-square-foot amphitheater, nestled within the park’s mile-long stretch of Gulf Coast beach, reflects a vision to create spaces for community connection.

“Isla Blanca Park is the crown jewel of not just Cameron County parks, but of all coastal parks along the Gulf of Mexico,” said Joe E. Vega, director of the Cameron County Parks and Recreation Department. “We’re creating spaces where memories are made, where people connect with nature and each other.”

The park’s development aligns with Cameron County’s five-year Parks Master Plan, which emphasizes equitable access, environmental stewardship and enhanced recreational opportunities. “The vision includes
maintaining a balance between recreation and conservation,” Vega noted, citing partnerships with the Texas General Land Office and Texas Parks and Wildlife to support dune restoration and beach nourishment.

The holiday concert series underscores the amphitheater’s role as a cultural hub, fostering connections through music. “Our goal is to achieve and improve the quality of life for our residents,” Vega said,
highlighting the department’s commitment to diverse programming.
