U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is urging the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to swiftly reissue
permits for the Rio Grande LNG project, citing its potential to create thousands of jobs and generate billions
in investment for the Rio Grande Valley.
In a letter to FERC, Cruz criticized delays caused by litigation and a court-ordered remand, despite the
project’s original approval. He called on the commission to act with urgency, pointing to FERC’s recent
approvals of other LNG projects as precedent.
Cruz has been a vocal advocate for the project, previously filing a bipartisan amicus brief after the D.C.
Circuit Court vacated permits for Rio Grande LNG and Texas LNG Brownsville. He welcomed the court’s
recent decision to reinstate those authorizations.
The senator has also supported legislation to protect LNG projects from judicial delays and pushed for
expedited approvals amid what he describes as the Biden administration’s opposition to fossil fuel
development.
