On Thursday, July 24, the Port Isabel Early College High School coaching staff will be hosting its annual “Future Tarpons” football camp. The free event will be held at Tarpon Stadium with a start time of 8 a.m.

The camp is open to students ages 5 through incoming high school freshmen.

After signing up for the event, participants will be given a customized T-shirt designed for the camp. The kids will then be separated into two groups: elementary students and Jr High/High School students.

The younger group will learn the fundamentals of football and will take part in a punt, pass, and kick competition. The older group will receive a more advanced camp experience that will focus on skills like passing, basic route running, secondary coverage, blocking, and gap assignments.

After last year’s camp, the participants and coaches took pictures and enjoyed a slice of watermelon. For more information, call the athletic department at (956) 943-0110.

The Tarpons will kick off the new season with a scrimmage against Weslaco East at Tarpon Stadium on Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. The Tarpons will then end their pre-season with a scrimmage against Zapata (away) on Aug.
