Community members in Cameron County will soon gather along the shoreline for a morning of service. The Texas General Land Office has announced that the 2025 Adopt-A-Beach Fall Coastwide Cleanup is set for Saturday, Sept. 20, with check-in sites located across South Padre Island and Boca Chica.

South Padre Island city beaches will host volunteers at City Access Point #8 on White Cap Circle, located on Gulf Boulevard between East Swordfish and Red Snapper streets. For those heading to county-managed beaches, check-in is scheduled at Edwin King Atwood Park, 27159 State Park Road 100 at Access Road #5. Boca Chica will also serve as a cleanup site with registration available on location.

According to a press release on the Texas General Land Office website, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., encouraged Texans to take part in the coastwide effort. “Commissioner Buckingham encourages all Texans to join the GLO at 21 locations along the Texas coast, as we pick up trash together and help keep our Texas beaches beautiful,” the announcement stated.

The fall cleanup stretches up and down the Texas shoreline, from Sea Rim State Park near the Louisiana border to Boca Chica at the southern tip, with 21 total sites open to volunteers. Locally, South Padre and Boca Chica are expected to draw large groups of residents, students and visitors.

Volunteers will check in at 8:30 a.m., with cleanup underway from 9 a.m. to noon. Organizers recommend closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, a hat and plenty of drinking water. Participants are also invited to track their efforts through the Clean Swell app, which records debris data for the Ocean Conservancy’s global ocean trash database.

Since its first cleanup in 1986, Adopt-A-Beach has drawn more than 588,000 volunteers who have removed nearly 10,000 tons of litter from Texas beaches. With sites along the entire coast, the program continues to highlight how communities statewide can work together to protect natural resources.
