Visitors to Cameron County parks will have a more convenient way to pay tolls starting Monday, September 8, 2025. The first phase of the county’s toll collection system upgrade has been completed, allowing credit card payments at several popular coastal locations.

The upgrade currently affects Isla Blanca Park, Cameron County Beach Access No. 5 at Atwood Park, Cameron County Beach Access No. 6, and Adolph Thomae Jr. County Park. Visitors can use Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover at these locations. Renovations are still underway at Andy Bowie Park and Cameron County Beach Access No. 3. Once finished, those sites will also be able to process credit card transactions, further streamlining park access.

County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. said the improvements are aimed at enhancing the visitor experience. “This upgrade marks a significant step forward in modernizing our toll system and enhancing the overall visitor experience. By enabling credit card payment options at our lanes, we are providing park visitors with greater convenience and flexibility. We appreciate the public’s patience and support as we move toward full system implementation.”

Commissioner Sofia C. Benavides highlighted the county’s commitment to accessibility. “Improving infrastructure that prioritizes accessibility and convenience is one of our top goals. The completion of this first phase is a great example of how we are striving to improve everyday services for our residents and visitors. I’m excited that all County Coastal Park Toll Collection lanes will now be accepting credit cards.”

Parks Director Joe E. Vega noted the practical benefits for visitors. “We’re excited to mark the completion of the first phase of our toll system upgrade. Adding credit card payment options is a meaningful step toward creating a more efficient and user-friendly experience for all visitors. This progress reflects the vision and hard work of the Cameron County Commissioners Court and commitment to delivering practical, forward-thinking solutions that make a real difference when visiting our County Parks. We thank all visitors for their patience and cooperation during the upgrade process and remain committed to improving your experience at our County Park toll collection facilities.”

Judge Treviño also shared the announcement on Facebook. “Major Upgrade Announcement.
