At a special city council meeting this week, members discussed several key items regarding tourism initiatives and leadership for Visit South Padre Island.

Council members began by thanking participants for the success of the recent Night Out program and promoted upcoming events aimed at drawing visitors to the Island.

The council then approved a contract with Search Wide Grow Global to conduct an executive search for a new executive director of Visit South Padre Island. The contract is set with a budget of up to $53,750. Previously, the firm charged 33% of an executive’s salary for such searches; under the new agreement, the fee will be 25%.

In addition, the council approved a $60,000 budget to bring on Brett Odin of Odin Alchemy as interim CEO for Visit South Padre Island. Odin will focus on organizational assessments and leadership, reporting directly to Randy Smith and participating in weekly meetings to ensure continuity during the executive search process.

City leaders emphasized that these steps are aimed at strengthening the organization’s leadership and ensuring that South Padre Island continues to attract visitors while maintaining strong tourism operations.
