Causeway Run and Fitness Walk Traffic management plan released

Special to the PRESS

South Padre Island will welcome runners and walkers back for the 42nd Annual Longest Causeway Run & Fitness Walk on Saturday, April 11, starting at 7 a.m. City officials, including the South Padre Island Police Department, will be on hand to manage traffic and ensure public safety.

“Public safety is always our top priority,” said Police Chief Claudine O’Carroll. “We want everyone—participants and visitors alike—to enjoy this annual event safely.”

Drivers should anticipate temporary delays before and after the race. Traffic cones and personnel will help guide vehicles and minimize disruptions. Runners will start at the Port Isabel Event & Cultural Center, travel east across the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge on the right lane, continue south to Isla Blanca Park, and then head north on Padre Boulevard to finish at Beach Water Park. Walkers begin 30 minutes after runners, proceed south on Padre Boulevard, and turn left at the south entrance of Beach Water Park to finish.

Eastbound traffic will use the inside (left) lane; westbound traffic will remain open. Temporary lane adjustments are expected from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Emergency vehicles will escort the event until its conclusion. Drivers are asked to plan accordingly and help make this annual celebration safe and enjoyable.
