Turtle Twist: Amidst Kemp’s ridley nesting season, loggerhead turtle found on Island

PRESS Staff Report   A loggerhead sea turtle nest was discovered on Sunday, June 7 containing 111 eggs. Sea Turtle, Inc. estimates that the eggs should hatch sometime in July. Though the Laguna Madre is a popular nesting spot for the endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, it’s rare for a loggerhead to make her nest here since they prefer the Atlantic coast states. This …
