Celebrities to attend Bass Pro Shops ribbon cutting

HARLINGEN – An all-star cast that reads like a who’s who in the world of sports, entertainment and the great outdoors joins together to help Bass Pro Shops celebrate a spectacular Evening for Conservation, Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, located on 101 Bass Pro Drive in the Cameron Crossing Retail Development at the intersection of U.S. Expressways 83 and 77 in Harlingen.

On hand will be Bass Pro Shops #1 Sprint Cup Series NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray and Bass Pro Shops/ RCR #3 Truck Series driver Austin Dillon. Special celebrity guests appearing include former Dallas Cowboys and 5-time Pro Bowler Jay Novacek, America’s Billiard Star The Black Widow, Jeanette Lee and Miss Texas USA Brittany Booker.

Professional anglers scheduled to appear include legendary angler and TV host Jimmy Houston, Host of “Jimmy Houston Outdoors” TV show, 11-time Bassmaster Qualifier Edwin Evers, 2011 Bassmaster Elite Series Rookie of the Year Ott DeFoe and Tournament Series Pro Angler Pedro Sors.

RedHead Pro Hunting Team members also appearing include John Paul Morris, Jerry Martin, Jim and Angie Ryan and their grandson, Hunter, and History Channel’s 2011 Top Shot Chris Reed.

Jimmy Houston will serve as Emcee for the event. Musical entertainment for the evening will be provided by “James Garcia and the White Eagle Band.” A special Color Guard presentation will be made by Jr. ROTC cadets from the Harlingen High School under the direction of 1st Sgt. Moses Mendoza.

Bass Pro Shops has been named the #1 Outdoors Retailer in America by Sporting Goods Business Magazine and more recently, as one of the Top 10 Hottest Brands in America by Advertising Age Magazine. Located on 101 Bass Pro Drive, in the Cameron Crossing retail development at the intersection of U.S. Expressways 83 and 77, the 145,000 square-foot store will officially open its doors for a preview celebration during the fundraising event and ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 6-10 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

For every $1 spent during the Evening for Conservation 50 cents will be donated to the “More Fish” campaign of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to save fish and their habitats for our kids and grandkids. The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation offers a variety of grant programs aimed at a variety of geographical and species-specific goals so that local conservation entities may apply for grants for local fish habitat efforts.

Local conservation groups on hand Wednesday evening will include the National Wild Turkey Federation, Federation of Fly Fishermen, The Valley Land Fund, The Nature Conservancy, The Valley Nature Center, Resaca de la Palma State Park, The Gorgas Science Foundation and Sabal Palm Sanctuary, Sea Turtle, Inc., Valley Proud Environmental Council, Friends of South Texas National Wildlife Refuges, Safari Club International and the Coastal Conservation Association.

They will have booths and displays set up to help educate and communicate to customers their ongoing efforts and local projects. Western Premium BBQ Products will have their cooking trailer on site cooking meat products with all sales proceeds benefitting the CCA conservation group.

Products donated by Coca-Cola will be sold through Valley Proud Environmental Council with all proceeds benefitting that group.

Bass Pro Shops Founder Johnny Morris, Bass Pro Shops President Jim Hagale, Bass Pro Shops Director of Conservation Martin Mac Donald, City of Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell and Harlingen Economic Development Corporation President Ernesto Silva are among those scheduled to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Racing enthusiasts don’t want to miss seeing the Bass Pro Shops #1 Sprint Cup Series race car and the #3 Truck Series truck. Other special exhibits that evening include the Oakley Rolling O Lab and the Bass Pro Shops hot air balloon.

The Grand Opening Celebration begins Thursday, Nov. 17 and will continue through Sunday, Nov. 20. The store will open at 8 a.m. Thursday and at 9 a.m. (normal opening hours) Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. The celebration includes special exhibits, store-wide savings and fantastic giveaways. You can also visit with today’s experts on fishing, hunting, boating and more.

The world’s leading supplier of outdoor products is much more than a hunting and fishing store.
