Cop: 300,000 kids exploited yearly

Staff Writer

Between 100,000 and 300,000 children are at risk of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (DMST) each year, said San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez at the Valley Forensic Conference on the Island,Wednesday.

Though the tabloids scream out drug trafficking daily, the chief said that the market for DMST is far greater and more affluent throughout the world, as well as the US.

According to Gonzalez, children between the ages of 12-14 are the prime targets for buyers, and the children are usually runaways or unwanted children living on the streets.
