On Sunday, Nov. 20 at the McAllen Convention Center, the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and United Way will host its 28th Annual “Heart of the Valley” Health, Fitness and Wellness Fair.

“This is the 28 edition of the ‘Heart of the Valley’ health fair which will go from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and is sure to be a great success,” said Luis Cantu, V.P. of Community Development for the Chamber. “We are very enthusiastic about this event because of what it offers to the community, and that goes from hundreds of medical screening and checks to health related information.”

“Through the health fair we are able to reach out to over 6,000 people of our local community as well as Winter Texans, and that is very important especially for people who do not have access to medical insurance or Medicaid,” Cantu added.

Among the more important screenings that will be provided are cholesterol screenings, diabetes, children therapy, blood pressure, dental, vision, arthritis, hearing and BMI. There will also be an exhibitor providing free flu shots to the first 100 people who attend the event while others will be providing free massages, according to Cantu.

The “Heart of the Valley” health fair will also feature a special children’s section featuring face painters, mascots, clowns and moon jumps among many other activities. For complete details about the health fair, sponsorship or booth information, call Cantu or Yajaira Villarreal at the Chamber at (956) 682-2871.
