What is better for a child than combining the glow of Christmas with the adventurous world of the zoo?

The simple answer is… not much.

The Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville is hosting its annual Zoo Nights and Lights from Fridays, Dec. 2 – Sunday, Dec. 4.

There will be something for all ages throughout each evening.

The main attraction is the hundreds of light displays set-up throughout the zoo grounds in various shapes and sizes.

In addition to the lights, there will be live music from local bands and choirs to boost the atmosphere.

There will also be an arts and crafts show for people to pursue and purchase gifts. Venders selling items from novelty toys to homemade candies and exotic jewelry will be set up in the main display hall.

To complete the Christmas cheer, there will be a ginger bread cookie decorating station for children.

The hours are 6-9 p.m. each day. Tickets are on sale now at the zoo office, or, in accordance with the spirit of the holiday, patrons can donate an unwrapped new toy for the US Marines’ Toys for Tots drive at the entrance in exchange for admission.
