Railways, rocket launch sites, and lifeguards were a few of the topics covered at the monthly “coffee and conversation” meeting Thursday morning, held by the SPI Chamber of Commerce, on South Padre Island.
Precinct 1 County Commissioner Sophia Benavides updated the attendees on current projects, and briefly discussed future projects for the county parks on South Padre Island. Benavides also included updates on grant monies the county has acquired to add improvements to the Zapata Boat Ramp off of Hwy 48 between Brownsville, and Port Isabel.
She said, “We have already completed the projects for: added lighting, new bathroom facilities, and boat ramps. But we found that people fished right off the boat ramp – and don’t move as the boats come in –which provide a danger.
