gavelLaguna Vista officials are scheduled to meet today at 5 p.m. to consider hiring a new city attorney.

The action comes after concerns were raised that the town’s current attorney was not available to answer questions raised about legal issues including the town charter.

Ramon Vela of Weslaco was named in August to fill the position, succeeding attorney Jan Cassidy of San Benito who resigned the post. He was paid $125 per hour for town business and $250 per hour for municipal court trials and hearings.
