Students advance to state Science Fair

The results are in from the Regional Science Fair held at the University of Texas at Brownsville on Saturday, March 3. Port Isabel Junior High School sent nine students to compete at the competition and four out of the nine advanced to the State Science Fair to be held in San Antonio. The ExxonMobil Texas State Science and Engineering Fair will be from March 29-31. Brian Chavez, sixth grader was awarded first place in Behavioral & Social Science with his project entitled, “Are Children Safe?” Kaleb Martinez and Brandon Branham, seventh graders were awarded third place in Engineering Materials with their project entitled, “Baseball Bat-Aluminum or Wood.” Alyssa Villarreal, eighth grader was awarded second place in Microbiology with her project entitled, “Sterility of Libraries.” The ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair have been operated by the UTSA College of Sciences since 2004.
