SPI City Council to meet

gavelThe South Padre Island City Council will meet Wednesday, May 2 for a workshop session at 2 p.m. and a regular City Council meeting at 5:30 p.m. The workshop session will be devoted to a presentation on parliamentary procedures.

The regular meeting agenda includes an update on the construction of the new fire and emergency services facility and discussion regarding animal shelter services for the City of South Padre Island. The council will discuss and consider possible action to participate in the funding of a study to model the impact of SPI’s tourist economy on surrounding communities, the county and the state, and the council will again discuss and consider possible action on whether or not to engage the services of Mike Krusee and/or Gateway Planning to assist the city in securing funding for the Padre Boulevard revitalization project.

SPI Beach Resort Waterpark, LLC is seeking approval for a variance to Chapter 23, Subdivision Ordinance, Section 23.13, Design Standards, (B) Lot Frontage on a Public Street, and the council will discuss and take possible action to accept an easement agreement from Menalon Inc. on Lot 1, Block 6, Sunny Isle Subdivision and Block 7, Sunny Isle Subdivision, located at 1601 Padre Blvd. in order to facilitate the installation of a street cross section for Padre Blvd. identified in the Padre Boulevard Transportation Plan.
