Cameron County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Port Isabel area man on multiple counts of injury to a child, charges which stem from allegations that he squeezed his infant daughter so hard that her ribs fractured.

Sheriff Omar Lucio reported that the 4-month-old girl had been hospitalized recently with a fractured skull and ribs. The Sheriff’s Department had been notified of the injuries on May 8, when authorities were called to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, where the infant had been hospitalized.

Deputies also learned that it wasn’t the first time the child was hospitalized for injuries as reports indicate she suffered from fractured ribs, bruising and bleeding from the ears in April.
