Shelter reaches adoption goal

The once-crowded Isabel Y. Garcia Animal Shelter in Port Isabel has reached its adoption goal, preventing possibly numerous animals from being put down.

The shelter had until the beginning of June to move 20 dogs into homes because over-crowding put the shelter outside of compliance with the law.

Twenty-four dogs and one cat were adopted, putting the shelter’s numbers back within the law, according to Sasha Villaseñor, an administrative assistant at the shelter.
