American flags lined the streets of Port Isabel Thursday in honor of Flag Day.
Two local Army veterans went to the Veterans Memorial Park in Port Isabel to reflect on what the day means to them.
“[Flag Day is] to remember those who fought for us and those who are fighting for us now,” said Irene Camacho, commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8791.
Camacho served eight years in the U.S. Army, eventually attaining the rank of sergeant. She was deployed to Iraq in 2004. She is the first female commander of this VFW post.
