The Cameron County Tax Assessor’s Office will now collect the local taxes of all the municipalities in the Laguna Madre area.
Tax Assessor Tony Yzaguirre, Jr. said all local city councils and the school district have contracted with the county for it to collect taxes. Previously, the school district was collecting the taxes.
“What this means is people go to one centralized location and pay all of their taxes,” Yzaguirre said. “I think it’s easier for the tax payer to go to one place.”
