Auditions for ‘Side by Side’ to be held

The sounds of music will fill the air this fall as the El Paseo Arts Foundation begins rehearsals for its October 24-26 production of one of Broadway’s most celebrated musicals: Side by Side by Sondheim.

Auditions for the show will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, and Thursday, September 6 at the Art Gallery in Lighthouse Square. Directors Mary Hartman and JoAnn Evans will be looking for cast of 4 to 8 singers and a non-singing narrator. Rehearsals will begin the week of September 10.

The musical revue celebrates the early work of one of Broadway’s most talented composers, Stephen Sondheim. The various sections of the show are tied together because the songs are from the same musical or because the music shares a common theme. It is the narrator who explains all the connections to the audience and provides the transitions from one segment of the show to another.
