Posada reenactment set at Casa Mariposa

Casa Mariposa Event Venue and Boutique Guesthouse, located at 112 West Corral St. on South Padre Island, is hosting a traditional Posada reenactment on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m.

Posadas are a reenactment of Joseph and the Virgin Mary’s search for lodging during their travels to Bethlehem.

While Posada reenactments are considered popular in many countries and cultures, regionally, the reenactments are prevalent in Mexican American communities and the Southern border regions of the United States.

During the reenactment, after being denied twice by two different lodges, Joseph and Mary are allowed to stay in a stable, where Mary gives birth to Jesus.

The staff at Casa Mariposa invites the public in reenacting this event, in which some of the attendees will play the part of the innkeepers and some will play the role of the Pilgrims, who have to request lodging through singing and chants.

Food will be available and adults 21 years of age and over are welcome to bring an alcoholic beverage of their choice or a dessert.

Children are welcomed to attend with an accompanying adult or adults.

This is a free event that’s open to the public. For more information, contact Casa Mariposa at (956) 778-6095.
