Surfriders to feature ‘Bag It’ at Island Cinema

Special to the Parade

The public is invited to Island Cinema Theater on Saturday, January 19, for a free showing of the movie: “Bag It! Is Your Life Too Plastic?” presented by Surfrider South Texas Chapter and the Lower Rio Grande Valley Sierra Club.

The award winning documentary “Bag it!” has garnered awards at film festivals across the nation. What started as a documentary about plastic bags evolved into a wholesale investigation into plastics and their effect on waterways, oceans and on the human body. “Join the Bag It movement and decide for yourself how plastic your life will be,” a press release read.

With Brownsville, South Padre Island and Laguna Vista leading the way, many hope the film will spark interest in the rest of the Lower Laguna Madre Area and Cameron County to eliminate plastic bags and promoting the use of reusable bags in the areas.

Island Cinema is located at 4700 Padre Blvd, South Padre Island. For more information, call (956) 433-1472.
