The preventative maintenance project for the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway continues through the month of February but should cease by March, officials say.

The work being performed in this contract is part of continued preventive maintenance and remediation strategies to maintain the bridge’s extended service life.

Rex Costly, Maintenance Engineer said the Contractor has until March 1 to perform all work on top of the bridge.

“We are closely monitoring progress and will ensure the contractor is off the bridge by the 1st,” Costly said.

Costly said the majority of the railing retrofitting, and cleaning and sealing of the armor joints is complete. He said full depth concrete repairs should be complete prior to the deadline.

Restec, the contractor for the project, will continue to work on the bottom of the bridge when the work on top is completed. It does not require a lane closure, Costly said. The work is limited to movable working platforms, and bucket lifts resting on barges.

“Work from below is on-going and will probably finish in the July timeframe,” Costly said.
