South Padre Island Convention Centre Sales Manager Sylvia Soliz was selected to serve as Interim Director for the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB). Soliz has been with the City of South Padre Island for nearly 16 years and has built strong working relationships with the hotel industry and community.

Rene Valdez, with the Schlitterbahn Beach Resort and previously with other Island resorts, has worked with Soliz for years and says he thinks she will do a great job. “Sylvia has been great,” said Valdez. “She’s always been very reliable and she’s extremely friendly.”

Mayor Robert N. Pinkerton, Jr. is also confident Soliz’ experience makes her highly qualified to lead the CVB. “I’m very happy that Sylvia has accepted the position of Interim CVB Director,” said Pinkerton, Jr. “She has worked hard for the city for many years and she has earned the opportunity to lead this very important department. I wish her the best of luck.”

Soliz says she is honored to have been selected to further contribute to the advancement of South Padre Island. “The Island has always been dear to my heart, and this will give me an opportunity to pay back everything it has given me,” said Soliz. “I’ll strive to do my best for the CVB, City and the community.
