The second week of March was Texas Week on South Padre Island. Students from all over the state as well as the country made their way out to the Island.
South Padre Island police have said the season has begun with a mild start but they expect more traffic on the Island this coming weekend.
Corbin Carsrud, a senior at Texas Tech University from Houston, said he made the trip to South Padre Island to relax before graduation and his responsibilities get to be more of a burden.
“I just knew it would be an awesome time out here,” Carsrud said.
Most Spring Breakers made it out to Coca-Cola Beach this week where they raised their school or fraternity’s banner. Carsrud said it was fun mingling with other students on some common ground.
The major concert events on the Island began this Thursday with the Randy Rogers Band and continue through Sunday with the UME festival.
The Island will also be getting national attention with the help of The Travel Channel, which documented the Island’s preparations and festivities for programming on their network.
In other Spring Break news, local authorities have reported as much as 109 arrests being made on the Island in just four days, this as of Wednesday morning.
