Authors’ Night to showcase prose and poetry

Author's Night pic1-4-11-13The Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center Writers Forum will showcase original writings at their third annual public event at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in San Benito.

Typically included in the evening’s venue are home-grown and produced songs, poetry and short stories, all composed by area residents who will be present at the event, which will be held at the center, located at 225 E. Stenger St.

Among those scheduled to perform are Diana Dominguez, Anita Westervelt, Beto Conde, Meliton Hinojosa, Kathy Raines, Eugene (Gene) Novogrodsky, Ruth Wagner, Jose A. Alvarez, Mona Sizer and Edgar Clinton. Area artists Mikaa Valdez and Mayor Joe H. Hernandez will also have their work featured at the event.

The public is invited to join in Author’s Night, which begins with a social gathering, prior to the presentations by 12 members of the NMCAC Writers’ Forum, according to Beto Conde, the forum’s co-founder.

Author's Night pic2-4-11-13“For the last 11 years, the NMCAC Writers’ Forum has been providing a venue for local writers to experience reading their works before an audience,” he said.

“The Writers Forum has been the first place many of these talented local writers have read before an audience,” he added. “The Forum has inspired many of these new writers to pursue their writings with more enthusiasm as a result.”

There will be an admission fee at the door and refreshments and snacks will be served.

Co-sponsors of Author’s Night are the City of San Benito and the San Benito Chamber of Commerce.

The Writers Forum meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center. New members are always welcome.
