RRR pic2-4-10-13Lady and the Pit is Port Isabel’s newest destination for delicious barbeque.

Natasha Smith, the Lady in the namesake, said she and her husband came to Port Isabel from Fort Worth where they ran a mobile vending business.

“We were thinking of opening a location in Arlington from the ground up, but the opportunity in Port Isabel presented itself,” Smith said.

Smith said she fell in love with the area after a visit. She said it was a different type of atmosphere that is calm and peaceful.

Smith and her husband, Master Chef Ken, have been cooking for 25 years and will expand her menu when she is able to modify the kitchen to their unique specifications.

“Food is a gift and we like to spread the love through food,” Smith said.

Currently, Lady and the Pit serves choice meats served on a platter with two sides or in sandwich form served with chips and a pickle. Meats to choose from are ribs, sliced brisket, hot links, pulled pork, chopped beef, sausage chicken or bolo.

Lady and the Pit is also available for catering and is not limited to items from the menu.

Smith said that, being all-around chefs, they are able to provide any type of catering with a week’s notice.

“We have been cooking our entire lives, and we have developed a passion for it,” Smith said.

Lady and the Pit is located at 1401 W. Highway 100 in Port Isabel. Their hours of operation are 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
