The Laguna Madre Humane Society will be hosting a Benefit Bash Tuesday, April 23, at Padrerita Grill.
The free event slated at 6 p.m. will feature live music by Nancy Cook, and special guests will include Ronnie Bling and The Jeweltones, featuring Jerry Crow.
A raffle and live auction will be held at the event that will benefit the LMHS spay and neuter clinic in Port Isabel. The live performers will be donating their tips to the effort as well.
The non-profit clinic in Port Isabel serves the region’s pet owners/rescuers who cannot afford preventative pet care for quality of life. The clinic handles all of the surgical procedures for the animals at the Port Isabel Animal Shelter.
In addition to spay and neuter procedures, the clinic offers heartworm treatment when needed.
The surgery and care unit is headed by Dr. Sara Stephens who moved to the Island in May 2011 from Montana, where she had her own veterinary practice for 32 years. She said she was shocked by the problem of homeless pets.
“I think the problem can be turned around with enough community support,” Stephens said.
