Sand Crab Nighttime Beach Run set

Special to the Parade

Don’t miss the light show on the evening of Saturday, April 27, as more than 1,500 runners light up the South Padre Island beachfront at the Sand Crab Nighttime Beach Run benefiting Sea Turtle Inc.

This is the third year for this 5k and 10k running event. The popularity of a night run attracts an increasing number of participants each year and 2013 is proving to set record numbers.

The Sand Crab, run entirely on sand, on the beach, is a great way to get a little exercise under the stars, as well as enjoy a post-race barbecue while listening to live music with other runners on a warm spring night.

Glow sticks and LED Tiki torches will mark the course. Runners are also required to run with a headlamp or flashlight.

New this year is a one mile fun run for kids. The Kids One Mile Beach Run starts at 8 p.m. and all other runners and walkers start at 8:30 p.m. Watch from a beachfront condo or bring a chair and cheer the runners from any beach access between Tiki north and Harbor Street at the south end.
