The voters of South Padre Island sent a clear message with Tuesday’s City Council election as the community overwhelmingly selected local business owner Barry Patel and re-elected Councilman Alex Avalos to fill Places 1 and 2.
According to an unofficial tabulation released by city officials around 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Patel garnered 490 out of 623 votes, or 78.7 percent; Avalos received 484 out of 636 votes, or 76.1 percent.
