THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES: Padre Club of SPI says ‘goodbye’

In a final farewell gesture, the board members of Club Padre of SPI met at the Port Isabel-South Padre PRESS office on Jan. 28 to distribute the money remaining in the club’s treasury. The six selected local agencies set to receive donations are: the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Madre; Saint Stephen’s Food Bank; Isabel Y. Garcia Animal Shelter; Sea Turtle, Inc.; SPI Friends of Animal Rescue; and the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center. Club Padre members, both local and Winter Texan, enjoyed 25 years of fun and friendship. The club’s many activities included: classes, lectures, games, themed parties and community service as volunteers. The club has sadly gone the way of the dodo bird … it’s history. Shown, from left, are: Marlene Little — former club member; Bob Gillespie — Saint Stephen’s Food Bank; Oscar del Abra — City of Port Isabel Animal Shelter; Pat O’Brien — former club President; Cristin Howard — SPI Birding and Nature Center; Betty Tague — former club Vice-President; and Peg Ludwig — former club member.
