She was born near Haapsalu, Estonia on October 11, 1924 to Anton and Leena (Elster) Lents. She was the middle child of three. She married Roman “Ray” Kaevando in January 1944 in Ridala, Estonia.
Helmi was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Leena Lents; her older sister Benita; her younger brother Valdi; and her husband Ray.
Helmi was the best mom in the world. She was loved dearly by many friends who remember her as a great hostess who insisted on feeding anyone who entered their home. She loved plants and had one of the greenest thumbs in Port Isabel. Neighbors will remember her for her daily ½ mile walks.
For a small woman, Helmi was very tough. She beat cancer three separate times: stomach, colon and breast. Helmi has left this earth but we know she will be lovingly watching over us and will be always remembered for her love and kindness.
Helmi is survived by two daughters, Esther (Billy ) Kenon of Port Isabel and Carmen (Ron) Hicks of Weslaco; one granddaughter, Dallas Tallinn (Neil) Jones of Corpus Christi; step-grandchildren, Mandy Kenon of Harlingen, Curtis (Heather) Kenon of Bayview, Grant Hicks of Kansas City and Haley (Eric) Oyler of Austin; and eight great-grandchildren.
