Lady Tarpons start district play at 2-0

Special to the PRESS

The Port Isabel Lady Tarpons volleyball team has started the District 16-4A (D-II) season with a 2-0 mark after straight set wins over Zapata and Rio Hondo.

This Tuesday, they got the measure of Rio Hondo – 25-12, 25-15, 25-14 – and last Saturday they handled Zapata – 25-19, 25-17, 25-23. So dominant were the Lady Tarpons that in only one set, or game, did they trail at any point past the first three points of the set. Both matches were played in Tarpon Gym.

“It was a nice district-opening win,” head volleyball coach Julie Breedlove said after the Zapata match. “That third game we got a little tired, a little hot. We started doing things we don’t normally do.”
