It’s been 13 years since the Sept. 15, 2001 tragedy in which a barge collided with the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge, causing portions of the bridge to collapse.
The accident claimed eight lives: Robert “Bob” Harris, “Harpoon” Barry and Chelsea Welch, Hector Martinez Jr., Julio Mireles, Gaspar S. Hinojosa, Robin Leavell and Stvan Francisco Rivas.
Since the event, improvements have been made to the bridge in hopes of preventing another such occurrence.
