Amaya Lampkin, a junior at Port Isabel High School, is seen Wednesday, Oct. 8, inside a campus library.

Amaya Lampkin is new to the RGV but has already proven that she is on the fast track to success. Lampkin moved to Port Isabel last year from Dallas, Texas and is a junior at Port Isabel High School. An academic and athletic standout, Amaya is a welcome addition to the community and has quickly made a name for herself both in the classroom and as a member of the Lady Tarpon track and field team.

Lampkin is focusing on her studies this year, taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes in History and Physics as well as dual credit college algebra and English classes. Recently, her efforts were rewarded, and the A student was named to the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
