Palm Sunday begins Holy Week observances at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel.

Masses for Palm Sunday start with a Vigil on Saturday at 5 p.m. and continue Sunday at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and 12 noon.

Holy Thursday, April 2, observances begin with a Mass of the Lord’s Supper (bilingual), include Washing of the Feet. Bread will be blessed and provided for the families present. Participants are invited to bring a bell to ring during the singing of the Gloria.

On Good Friday, April 3, there will be a Living Stations of the Cross procession at 3 p.m. conducted throughout the area neighborhood, and also a traditional Stations of the Cross service in the Church, for those who are unable to follow the walk outside.

Also on Good Friday, Catholics are reminded to fast and abstain on this holy day. At 7 p.m., the Church will celebrate the Passion of the Lord (bilingual).

Observances on Holy Saturday, April 4, start at 7 p.m. with the Easter Vigil in the Holy Night. All are invited to bring bells to ring during the singing of the Gloria. Parishioners may also take home some of the newly blessed water in their own containers.

Holy Week ends on Easter Sunday with Masses celebrating the Resurrection of the Lord. Masses are at 8 a.m. in Spanish, and 10 a.m. and 12 noon in English.

The Parish Office will be closed on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday, for Holy Week observances.

Holy Week Confessions are scheduled on Monday from 10 a.m.-12 noon and Wednesday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Church.

An important practice session for all Holy Week Mass coordinators and altar servers is as follows:

  • Holy Thursday, April 2, at 10:00am at the church
  • Good Friday, April 3, at 10:00am at the church
  • Holy Saturday, April 4, at 10:30am at the church
  • RCIA Easter Vigil Practice-Saturday, April 4 from 9:00am to 10:30am at the church.

Also, the Knights of Columbus will host a Fish Fry this Friday, April 3 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at Fireman’s Hall for $5 per plate. Early ticket purchases will be available from KC members, or you may purchase tickets at the door.

For those who joined the parish community and more than 13,000 Catholic communities across the United States in a Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowls: It is time to return your Rice Bowls so that the parish can send the collection to the organization, CRS.

The annual Chrism Mass will take place on Tuesday, March 31 at 6:30 pm at the San Juan Basilica. The parish is sponsoring a bus to take parishioners to the Chrism Mass. The cost for the trip is $13 per person.  Seating is limited so reservations are recommended as soon as possible.
