The Keep SPI Beautiful Committee met last Thursday to discuss upcoming events as well as collaborations with groups that promote similar missions and values. Rob Nixon, Chairman of the Surf Rider Foundation South Texas Chapter was in attendance to share about his organization and build the relationship for future partnerships.

Nixon is also currently a member of the SPI Shoreline Task Force and was a founding member of Keep SPI Beautiful. He shared that the Surf Rider Foundation is a national nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the protection and preservation of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches for the enjoyment of all people through beach access, litter control and more. Locally, the foundation started out in opposition of the development of Isla Blanca Park as a marina and casino facility. It has been instrumental in the SPI dune protection line since Hurricane Dolly in 2008.
