The Shoreline Task Force met last Monday to discuss several issues, chief among them, the Beach User Fee. The task force approved the maintenance fee, which will charge visitors $12 per day, up to $50 per month, to park along Gulf Boulevard and side streets. Padre Boulevard will also be a target for fee enforcement during busy events. The City now awaits approval from the General Land Office (GLO) to put the project into effect.

The task force also heard reports on recent work, including Beach Patrol Statistics, UTB surveys that are being conducted on Island visitors, as well as ongoing project updates.

During public comments, Vice Chairman Troy Giles announced that Clayton Brashear, of Clayton’s Beach Bar, sent a message to the Task Force with plans for the 1,000 foot fishing pier that is in the works and which will be located 200 feet south of his beach bar. Giles noted that it is very impressive and that it would be beneficial as the Island is need of more activities for people to visit. Brashear is currently awaiting permits for the project long in the making.
