Although summer is officially over, events are in full swing on South Padre Island. The Keep SPI Beautiful (KSPIB) committee met Wednesday afternoon to discuss projects and events coming up for the fall. The committee is scheduled to host and participate in a  myriad of beach cleanups over the next few months.

A major discussion in recent meetings has been in regards to logistics and coordination of volunteers, as well as collaboration with other groups. Environmental Health Director Victor Baldovinos addressed the issue of volunteer coordination with the creation of a OneDrive account as a database to collect volunteer information. The database was formed to help the committee better reach out to those interested in volunteering for events. The committee plans to work toward having on-site access for inputting volunteer information.

Upcoming volunteer opportunities include the Adopt-a-Beach Bi-National Cleanup this Saturday, Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., as well as the fall Adopt-a-Beach cleanup on Sept. 26 at Beach Access #3.
