Pachanga in the Park and the Run SPI Marathon were topics of discussion at this week’s Port Isabel City Commission Meeting.

Entering its fifth year, the Pachanga in the Park is expected to be bigger and better, said Interim City Manager Jared Hockema. This year the event will feature two bands offering traditional Latino music such as norteños and corridos, as well as modern rock & roll. The event will also feature more rides and contests, he said.

Both sponsors and vendors are still being sought, Hockema said. Interested parties may contact Jeannie Flores to secure a booth or Robert Salinas to purchase a sponsorship, he said. Pachange in the Park will take place on Oct. 3 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Washington Park.

Another event discussed by the Commission was the upcoming Run SPI Marathon, which is scheduled for Nov. 14. Runners will begin the 26.2 mile route in Port Isabel before crossing the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway and completing the majority of the run on South Padre Island. Previously, the Commission had expressed concern about the road closure plans associated with the event.
