Black Friday, Cyber Monday – for many, getting that gigantic TV or the latest smartphone is what Christmas has become. But imagine being a child and waking up on Christmas day with no presents, no joy, and feeling as if Santa Claus has forgotten you. Well, thanks to the efforts of the U.S. Marine Corps and Louie’s Back Yard on South Padre Island, many children will have a very Merry Christmas due to the generosity of hundreds of people in the local community who came out on Dec. 1 to support the 16th annual Toys for Tots Christmas Party.
By bringing an unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more, guests were treated to a sumptuous seafood buffet and enjoyed the spirit of the season of giving, and give they did. A mountain of wonderful toys were collected by Marine volunteers at the door, with many donating far beyond the minimum amount. Stuffed animals, dolls, sports equipment, and games galore accumulated over the course of the event, ensuring a joyful Christmas season for many children in the lower Laguna Madre area.
