A South Padre Island man was arrested Monday after Cameron County Pct. 1 Constable Pete Delgadillo discovered drugs and weapons inside his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Andrew James Crain, 22, was stopped for a seatbelt violation just outside of Laguna Heights. Crain admitted to having a small amount of marijuana inside the vehicle, as well as several firearms.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, Delgadillo discovered a plastic bag containing a small baggie of marijuana and another of what appeared to be MDMA, more commonly known as molly. Drug paraphernalia, including a pipe and a hookah, were recovered, as well.

Three .22 caliber rifles, one of which was loaded, as well as approximately 150 5.56 NATO rounds and 300 .223 rounds were also found in the vehicle.

Testing of the suspected drug substance later confirmed it was MDMA. Crain was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 2, a third degree felony. As a result, the firearms were seized, Delgadillo said.

Crain was released from the Carrizales – Rucker Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.

The Texas Alcoholic and Beverage Commission (TABC), Laguna Vista Police Department and Point Isabel Independent School District Police Department also assisted in the arrest, Delgadillo said.
