January 1 marks a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics across the world, celebrating Saint Mary as the mother of Jesus Christ.
In Port Isabel at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, a vigil mass will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 31 at 6 p.m. and Feast Day Masses on Friday, Jan. 1 at 9 a.m. in English and at 11 a.m. in Spanish.
This weekend the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord will be observed. At each weekend Mass, parishioners will be sharing a “Rosca de Reyes” with everyone. The lucky ones who get a baby figurine in their slice will receive a special blessing at the Presentation of the Lord (Candlemas) in February.
In other church news, the next scheduled baptisms are on Feb. 6, with preregistration beginning Jan. 4 and ending on Jan. 15.
The 2016 Altar Flowers Calendar is open. Parishioners can honor a deceased loved one, or celebrate someone’s birthday or anniversary, with a floral tribute for the altar.
