From the desk of the city manager

Special to the PRESS

LV Residents and Friends,

This is to provide an update on the Laguna Vista Police Department led by Police Chief Tony David and his seven officers:

  • Traffic and citations declined in the year 2015 to 1,377 citations issued.  In 2014, there were 1,851 citations issued by LVPD.  This is a decrease of 26 percent.  This also can be attributed to officers increased issuance of warnings to violators.
  • In addition, in 2015, the LVPD received a 1,383 calls for police service and incidents, compared to 1,061 during the year of 2014 for a total of 322 more calls for service resulting in an increase of 30 percent.
  • LVPD has no open cases from the 2015 year, and all cases have been solved and property returned to owners. LVPD has one unsolved burglary where no property was recovered, and this is due to the victims being uncooperative with the ongoing investigation and failed to give information on the individual or individuals who stole the property.  This is consistent of the victims knowing the suspects who could be their children or other family members.   This file is closed due to the victims being uncooperative.
  • LVPD reported 52 open unsolved cases for the 2014 year, and in 2015, LVPD reports all cases solved and closed with property returned to the owners except for the one aforementioned case.  LVPD continued to see a 95 percent reduction in burglaries and property crime in 2015 compared to 2014.
  • The LVPD in the 2015 year executed more warrants of arrests and collected an excess of $28,000, more than any previous year.

The LVPD vision is to eliminate all crime in Laguna Vista and to provide the best service to the citizens we serve thus enhancing the lives of all citizens in our community.
