The Port Isabel High boys and girls track and field teams got off to a good start when they competed at the season’s first meet, the PSJA Winter Relays in Pharr, last Saturday.
Actually, it wasn’t a full meet in the regular sense of the word. The 110-meter and the 300-meter hurdles races were held, but except for the shot put, discus, and jumping events, no individual events were contested. The only other races to take place were the relays.
The format of the meet came as a surprise to the Port Isabel coaches and athletes; “They did inform us but we misread the information,” boys’ head coach Joe Gonzales said this week.
