Point Isabel School Board Trustee Olga Vega-Carter announced Tuesday she would not seek re-election in the upcoming May elections.

“I made this decision because I want to spend more time with my family and my business,” Vega-Carter said during a short address to the Board.

Vega-Carter expressed her gratitude for her time on the board, some seven years, and cited several accomplishments, such as the expansion of several facilities within the District. “I feel very lucky to have served on the same board as my father, Eliseo Vega,” she said. She pledged to continue being a voice for community and said she looks forward to continuing her service with the Salvation Army.

The District also heard updates about significant progress being made to various portions of the Athletic Complex. Work is continuing on both the baseball and softball fields, which are scheduled to be completed entirely by the middle of next month. Enough has been completed so far, however, that the Distrcit hopes to be able to host the first home games next week.
