The Port Isabel High Lady Tarpons track and field team used top two finishes in a pair of relay races and a gold medal-winning performance in the 300-meter hurdles race to win the team title at last Saturday’s Tarpon Relays in Port Isabel.
Brisia Gonzalez won the 300-meter hurdles event with a season’s personal-best time of 51.02 seconds. The Lady Tarpons won the 4×200-meter relay by 0.7 seconds over Harlingen, and a second-place finish in the day’s final event, the mile relay (4×400-meters), gave Port Isabel just enough points to hold off the Lady Cardinals by a single point.
The final totals showed Port Isabel in first place with 102 points, and Harlingen in second with 101.
